Introduction

I. The Designation of the Promise (9-13).

Now notice that there are two examples from the OT that Paul points to. The first is the example of Sarah and the second is the example of Rebekah.
First in regards to Sarah in verse 9, we are dealing with God’s promise to give her and Abraham a son (9).
Remember that Sarah was barren. And Abraham and Sarah took matters into their own hands and attempted to produce a child on their own through a surrogate named Hagar.
Hagar was the Egyptian servant girl of Sarah’s and she gave her to Abraham to produce a child with. And they had a son together named Ishmael.
Second is the example of Rebekah who was the wife of Issac in verses 10-13. Remember that Abraham was Isaac’s father.
